To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Marika Szczepek, and I have been singing since the earliest of my days, always volunteering to sing at school, church, and community events. I significanlty remember the moment when I was 13 years old and heard Mozart's famous Queen of the Night aria "Der Hölle Rache" for the first time. I felt a deep desire and passion for this art and decided then and there I wanted to pursue a career in Opera. I consequently began Voice and Piano lessons, and being the ambitious individual that I am, the first aria I demanded to study at only 13 years old was Mozart's "Der Hölle Rache". Since then, I have had the opportunity to sing for great singers such as Dolora Zajick and Marylin Horne, and was accepted into the Manhattan School of Music in New York for my Undergraduates Degree. An event particularly inspiring for me was when Dolora Zajick asked me to promise her that I would never give up singing, no matter what.
My parents and I are first generation immigrants to the US. My father would work up to 70 hours a week so we could afford music lessons. My mother is diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, and is on dialysis. She is currently on the list waiting for a kidney translplant. All througout my musical journey my parents have been more than supportive. I will never be able to thank them enough for all the sacrifices they have made. My mother or father would drive with me to New York City every Sunday for lessons. Once there, I would have an hour voice lesson, and a 2-3 hour long private coaching with a director. To pay for all these lessons, my parents took out a home equity line of credit. Thanks to the positive feedback from professionals and all the lessons my parents provided me with, I was well trained for auditions and was accepted into multiple colleges and music conservatories. After attending Manhattan School of Music in New York, I now have a $180,000 school loan to pay off which neither I or my parents are able to make consistent payments on yet. It is very difficult to pay for voice lessons to further my musical education in opera singing, make payments on my school loan, and support myself.
If you would like to support and sponsor me please make a donation.
PLEASE help me receive the fundamental schooling and experience to excel in my art, my passion, as it is my life.
P.S. I will gladly sing in exchange for a donation as well. Please contact me regarding your weddings, special events, or private parties!
With Regards,
Marika Szczepek
